In what is being billed as a culmination of all of Atlus’ RPGs we’ve enjoyed over the years, the developers finally announced the Metaphor ReFantazio release date during the Summer Game Fest. Made by Persona devs, you can immediately recognise that brand of gameplay Atlus delivers on time and again. ReFantazio is not quite SMT or Persona, but several elements from both games are present from what we’ve seen.
When is the Metaphor ReFantazio release date?
The Metaphor ReFantazio release date is Friday, October 11 2024. Atlus confirmed the launch during a sneak peek at gameplay at the Summer Game Fest. Introducing the trailer, we got to hear from Atlus’ Shigenori Soejima and Katsura Hashino, who explained the game’s job system, referred to as Archetypes.
Metaphor: ReFantazio gameplay details
If there’s one thing Atlus understands, it’s RPGs. Metaphor: ReFantazio is just that, complete with turn-based combat where you transform into powerful demons or monsters based on the job you select. These jobs are referred to in-game as Archetypes, and they let you fulfil a certain role in battle. Some are DPS, some are tanks, some are healers, you get the idea. The good news is that ReFantazio is expected to have more than 40 different archetypes in the main game, giving you plenty of customisation options for your party makeup.
As mentioned, this game is made by the people who created the Persona games, and you can probably tell how similar they are if you’ve played any of them. From the UI, menus, characters, increasing social stats, and what seems like a ‘spend time’ feature in ReFantazio; there is plenty for you Persona fans out there.
Metaphor: ReFantazio preorders and editions
Atlus loves to pad out its games and while we can probably expect to see a Metaphor: ReFantazio Reload / Golden / Royal edition a few years after this launch, the base game should suffice for now.
