Would a new Snatcher game sell well enough to warrant development? That’s the question currently being asked by Metal Gear Solid and Snatcher creator Hideo Kojima.

The interest in returning to the franchise comes ahead of the “Sdatcher” radio drama and the popularity of Kojima’s Hideraji podcast – the latter having notched up 450,000 listeners.

Sdatcher is an adaptation of the Snatcher series and is being made by Kojima and Grasshopper Manufacture’s Suda 51 and Akira Yamaoka.

“Even though the radio broadcast is free, if we converted it to a game, could it sell 200,000 or so domestically?” asked Kojima on Twitter.

200,000 may not even be enough, says Kojima. Should work on a new Snatcher with an open-world environment similar to LA Noire be greenlit, sales of 500,000 copies or more would be required. Even then, Kojima says he doesn’t have the time to make it – he’s busy with the mysterious “devil project”.

Snatcher was a graphic adventure released on the NEC PC-8801 and MSX 2 in 1988. It later appeared on the SEGA Mega CD, SEGA Saturn and PSone.
