Konami has revealed that because of “extraordinary” levels of interest in the Metal Gear Online beta things haven’t gone as smoothly as they wished. The start of the beta was suspended and the hope is to get things up and running this weekend or at the latest early next week.

Gamers won’t be missing out on MGO play time though, with Konami confirming that the beta is being extended and will now close on May 11. You’ll still need a Konami ID to take part, something you can obtain from the official Konami ID website – at least you can when it’s working. You’ll also need the Metal Gear Online client which can be found on the PlayStation Store.

Metal Gear Online will launch with Metal Gear Solid 4 on June 12, exclusively for PlayStation 3.
