The sequel looks to expand on the first title, offering more levels, differing states of the Mercury blob, and a variety of new multiplayer modes. The goal remains to guide the mercury blob to the end of the puzzle, overcoming obstacles and hazards along the way. This time the mercury blob can take on four differing states: Normal, Solid, Fast, and Slow.
The number of levels has more than doubled, with over 160 stages available, plus additional levels which will be made available in the form of downloadable content. The first Mercury game had a very simple multiplayer mode, and thankfully this has been completely overhauled in the sequel, which will offer five sub games to play with a friend.
“For Mercury Meltdown, we have listened to the feedback received from the first title and have also added many new additional ideas,” says Vijay Chadha, Managing Director, Ignition Entertainment Ltd. “While remaining true to the first game, Mercury Meltdown has a more accessible look and feel designed to appeal to everyone.“
Pleasing to hear is that some of the original’s biggest problems have been addressed. Firstly we’re promised vastly improved load times, in contrast to the weekend away you could take when a load was necessary in the first title. Also promised is a much fairer and easier to get into experience, doing away with the steep difficulty curve that turned many away from the first title.
Mercury Meltdown is scheduled for release across Europe on the PSP in September.
