Guiding a blob of mercury around a series of increasingly difficult levels sounds like a match made in heaven for the Wii Remote, and it seems the people behind the acclaimed Mercury games think so too.

Atari and Ignition Entertainment have announced the spring 2007 release of Mercury Meltdown Revolution for the Wii.

The unique control method associated with the Wii means that Mercury Meltdown Revolution will provide the ultimate Mercury experience,” said Peter Rollinson, Product Manager, Ignition Entertainment Ltd. “The mercury series was originally developed with a tilt controller in mind – the Wii has made this possible and the outcome provides the player with unprecedented control and accuracy.

Mercury Meltdown Revolution will feature 150+ levels, with players able to fully utilise the Wii Remote tilt sensor. The game will also allow players to use the Wii Classic and Nintendo GameCube Controllers. The game will run in 480p and will boast improved visuals thanks to advanced rendering techniques.

The game will be distributed by Atari in UK, France, Italy, Germany and the Nordic countries, and is scheduled for release in spring 2007.
