Medal of Honor sold more than 1.5 million units during its first five days on sale in the US and only two days on sale in Europe and Asia, EA has revealed.

EA also announced that the game’s multiplayer offering will expand with the release of an all-new, free mode. Clean Sweep is an elimination mode where players must rely on their own skill and teammates’ expertise to prevail as the winning team. The mode is playable across two all-new maps (Bagram Hangar and Khyber Caves) as well as redesigned versions of Diwagal Camp and Kabul City Ruins maps.

Frank Gibeau, president at EA stated: “Medal of Honor is one of EA’s most storied franchises and we’re thrilled to see that fans worldwide have embraced it. In this ultra competitive category, Medal of Honor stands out from the pack. By portraying the Tier 1 Operator as so elite, so tough, Medal of Honor offers a view into a world that has the power to resonate with FPS gamers everywhere.”

Clean Sweep will be available November 2, 2010, on Xbox LIVE and PSN to Medal of Honor gamers with an Online Pass – a single-use Online Pass code is enclosed with new, full retail purchases. Additional Online Pass codes are available for purchase from Xbox LIVE or PSN.

We’re not talking Halo or Call of Duty sales figures, but 1.5 million in five days is still an impressive total and one which sets the franchise up nicely for future instalments.

The free Cleen Sweep game mode will launch a week before the arrival of Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, and while sure to be well received amongst players is unlikely to prevent much of the game’s user base from switching sides come November 9.
