EA has announced that Medal of Honor, the modern-day FPS released last month, has sold two million units worldwide in only two weeks.

“Medal of Honor was released just two weeks ago and has already sold through more than 2 million units,” said John Schappert, EA chief operating officer, during the publisher’s second quarter financial call last night. “This is a game we are proud of, and the sales speak for themselves.”

CEO John Riccitiello added: “So far, the title has outperformed our sales expectations, continues to outperform our expectations through to week three, which we didn’t include in the numbers we just gave you. So it feels very good.”

“It is absolutely [a] clear success as a business for us. And consumer feedback has been strong to suggest that we’ve got a franchise now, once again, that we could successfully and effectively sequel in the future.”

Two million games in the hands of consumers in just two weeks is impressive going and as Riccitiello told investors, the Medal of Honor franchise now appears to be in a good place to successfully sequel in the future.

Turning MoH into an annual franchise wasn’t mentioned, but if the game is to genuinely compete with Activision’s Call of Duty, EA must be looking at bringing a new Medal of Honor to market each autumn.
