BioWare has released the first screenshots and details on the upcoming Wii U release of Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect 3 will ship alongside Nintendo’s console later this year, and feature a brand new control system designed around the GamePad.

Shots of the controller suggest that the GamePad’s touchscreen will be used to display a map of the area, plus offer easy access to each character’s talents.

In addition, the Wii U release will feature an interactive back story detailing the events of Mass Effect 1 & 2. Players will be able to make decisions during key points of the back story which will impact the narrative in their Mass Effect 3 playthrough.

Mass Effect 3’s online multiplayer will also make the jump to Wii U.

“BioWare is thrilled to launch our first ever title on a Nintendo console and our Mass Effect team is very proud to have the critically acclaimed Mass Effect 3 experience brought to the Wii U as a launch title,” BioWare said on its blog.

EA released details on multiple Wii U titles during its summer showcase event last night.

The first info on FIFA 13 and Madden NFL 13 on Wii U were also revealed, detailing the enhanced functionality offered by the Wii U’s GamePad.
