BioWare has confirmed that EA’s PC digital distribution service Origin will be required for the PC version of Mass Effect 3.
Writing on the company’s official forums, Bioware’s Chris Priestly announced that both digital and physical copies will require “a one time, single authorization for the single player game”
Priestly also confirmed that “there is no limit to the number of installs” but that “playing Mass Effect 3 multiplayer will require a constant connection” to the internet.
The company also reiterated EA’s reasons for not supporting Steam. “Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.”
Also confirmed was that Mass Effect 3 would collect data as it was being played, although users will be able to opt-out from within the game.
Last week EA announced a cross-promotion between Mass Effect 3 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning,
Mass Effect 3 will be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 9.
