Mass Effect 3 on PC won’t support game pads, despite the feature (especially using an Xbox 360 controller) becoming increasingly common.

BioWare community man Chris Priestly broke the news on the official BioWare forums, shattering the hearts of PC gamers clutching their game pads.

“The PC version does not support controllers,” wrote Priestly. “They may or may not work, but they are unsupported by the game.”

Try the game without support for game pads now by downloading the Origin demo. The same demo is also available on Xbox 360 and will make it to PS3 today.

The full game launches March 9.

Given the rise in native support for game pads it’s surprising to see a multiplatform title ship without the feature, but BioWare has never seen controller support as a vital element of its PC titles. Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age 1 and 2, and Star Wars: The Old Republic were all designed to be played using the keyboard and mouse control options only.
