EA has confirmed to IGN that Mass Effect 2 will release on PS3 on January 21, 2011 in Europe. The US will get the game on January 18.

The highly acclaimed game will arrive on PS3 with a host of extra content not found in the original Xbox 360 release. This includes the Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armor DLC. The Zaeed and Firewalker content will be accessible through the Cerberus Network, which will presumably be free for anyone who buys a new copy of the game – as was the case on Xbox 360.

An interactive comic will fill in the gaps for PS3 owners who haven’t played the original Mass Effect, while choices made here will be reflected in the proper game.

It’s taken a year, but PS3 owners will be overjoyed to be able to experience one of the best games of 2010. While a collection of both games would have been ideal, the interactive comic should introduce gamers to the story ahead of playing the sequel. It remains to be seen how well the game, heavily associated with the Xbox 360, will sell.
