As of Season 3.5, Marvel Rivals has 41 playable characters. Most of them are heroes, with only a couple of true villains making the cut. Hela and Ultron are arguably the biggest villains in the game, while Loki and Magneto are right behind them. By the end of the year, we will get at least four new characters, and some of them may be villains, NetEase confirmed.
Interestingly, the Marvel Rivals developer has already added several villains in the past season. Characters like Doctor Doom and Dracula played a significant role in the storyline. Unfortunately, they were not playable characters. However, this will change in the future.
Marvel Rivals will add villains as playable characters in the future
Guangguang, the creative director of the game, recently had an interview with Rivals Assembled. In 13 minutes, he revealed many interesting things about the popular game, including some details about its future. One of these plans includes adding more villains to the roster, although their release date is currently unknown.
When asked if more villains would be added as playable characters, Guangguang responded affirmatively. “Stay tuned,” he said. “Definitely, there will be [more villains] in the future.”
Interestingly, the next year’s roster has already been set, which means that NetEase has prepared 12 new characters to add to the game. Some of them are likely villains, although it’s hard to tell who will be the next character to be released. Marvel’s vast universe has many amazing characters who’d be perfect villains, from Doctor Doom and Thanos to Red Skull and Apocalypse.
Marvel Rivals Season 4 is set to come out on September 12 and will bring a new playable character. Maybe this time, NetEase will add a villain!
