Marvel Rivals has been losing players for more than nine months now. The game peaked in January 2025, shortly after its release, and has been declining since then. In fact, the hero shooter has lost 80% of its players in this period, which is significant. However, as bad as this sounds, the gradual decline may be exactly what this game needs.
The game may have lost a large chunk of players, but its found its footing. NetEase has big plans for it, and there is no doubt that Marvel Rivals is here to stay for many years.
What Is the Concurrent Player Count in Marvel Rivals?
Since the release of Season 4 in September, Marvel Rivals peaked at 131,528 players, according to Steam Charts. This marks more than a 10% drop in comparison to August, which was also lower than July. The game set the record for the most concurrent players in January, with more than 640,000 players playing at the same time. Since then, this number has been going down, just like the number of average players.
While a drop of 80% is huge, it’s not catastrophic. After all, Marvel Rivals was a relatively new game in early 2025, and many players wanted to try it out. On top of this, it’s a free game that has some of the most popular comic book characters, which further contributed to its success.
The Steam player count doesn’t tell us the entire story as well. The game is also available on PC through the Epic Games Store, as well as on gaming consoles. On these platforms, it’s impossible to tell how well or poorly the game is doing. However, it’s safe to say that it peaks at 200,000 concurrent players across all systems, which is not bad at all.
Yes, the game has some issues, and naturally, it’s not everyone’s favorite genre. However, despite the decreasing player count, Marvel Rivals has found its footing. It may have lost a lot of players, but it’s managed to retain its fans.
