Marvel Rivals just received another patch, bringing many bug fixes and new content to the game. The update went live on Thursday morning, and the event added with it will be activated on Friday. Unfortunately, NetEase still hasn’t addressed one of the major flaws the game has, which is the lack of Vanguard variety.

The patch fixed several big issues with a couple of heroes, essentially buffing them. However, no major gameplay changes have arrived with it.

The Marvel Rivels developer needs to fix Vanguards with a future patch

Each role is important in Marvel Rivals, but there is no doubt that Vanguards are the most exposed heroes. They generally play in the frontline and take most of the damage from the enemy team. Furthermore, they have to rely on the rest of the team to cover them. This role is essential to success, but unfortunately, there is no variety of Vanguards in the game.

Damage dealers have a poor reputation in Marvel Rivals, mostly for their tendency to insta-lock characters and underperform. While Strategists can cover for them and deal decent damage to everyone, this isn’t exactly the case for Vanguards. Yes, Thor can top damage charts, and Venom can survive an entire match without dying, but no Vanguard is effective at long-range combat.

The game needs a hitscan tank, which is something many players agree with. On top of this, only two Vanguards have a shield that can protect teammates, Dr. Strange and Magneto. If diving isn’t your playstyle, then you aren’t left with many other options for tanking. On the other hand, the game has 20 DPS characters, offering a variety of playstyles. Adding The Thing was great, but he is just another melee character who has no shield.

Season 2 of Marvel Rivals is scheduled to arrive in early April, and unfortunately, it appears that Blade will come with it, another DPS. However, we hope that NetEase will soon develop a new tank or at least rework the existing lineup to make Vanguards more fun to play.
