Marvel Rivals has a massive advantage over other hero shooters. As its name says, the game has permission to use Marvel characters. As of Season 3.5, NetEase has released 41 characters, and more of them are set to arrive soon. The next hero will join the lineup in September, but it may not be a Marvel hero.

Marvel gave NetEase a green light to release original characters in the future, which is something that the game developer may explore. Guangguang, the game’s creative director, recently confirmed this information, although we don’t have many details about it yet.

Marvel Rivals could soon get original characters

As Guangguang recently revealed, the Marvel Rivals roster for the next 12 months is already set. Character development takes a lot of time, and that is why the game creator needs to plan everything in advance. Unfortunately, some of the upcoming characters may not be heroes and villains from Marvel comics.

In his interview with MP1st, Guangguang was asked about the introduction of original characters, and here is what he replied: “Yes, we are allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals.” However, when he was asked if there were any original characters currently in development, he did not deny or confirm it. “Stay tuned,” is all that the creative director said.

With Marvel Rivals Season 4 dropping in September, NetEase may release the first original character. This hasn’t been confirmed yet, but as we approach September 12, we will get more leaks and details about the future content.

Marvel has thousands of characters, so adding original ones doesn’t sound like a great idea. However, when that time comes, we hope NetEase will implement them properly without ruining Marvel Rivals.
