Matchmaking has arguably been the most controversial thing about Marvel Rivals. The game has been out for eight months, yet many players believe that NetEase rigs matches. Due to this, the community has a popular theory that Marvel Rivals uses EOMM, which is engagement-optimized matchmaking. However, that is not the case.

The game developer refuted these rumors in the past, but will now take it a step further. NetEase will release a video that will provide insights on the matchmaking and ranking system. The video should be released next week.

Does Marvel Rivals use EOMM?

No, Marvel Rivals does not use EOMM. The existence of such a matchmaking system is a popular theory in the community, but there is no proof of it. Interestingly, Overwatch players believed the same thing about this game, despite its developer clearing up rumors.

In short, EOMM is meant to keep players engaged. Players who are on a win streak supposedly get stronger opponents to make things less predictable. Those on a losing streak, on the other hand, get matched with weaker opponents in order to win and keep playing.

NetEase provided a statement regarding this issue on X (formerly Twitter). The Marvel Rivals developer reiterated that the game does not use EOMM, and players will receive more information about it soon.

“As our game continues to thrive, we want to reiterate that Marvel Rivals does not use EOMM,” NetEase posted. “We are currently working on a video to demonstrate our developer insights on the matchmaking and ranking system, which is expected to be released next week,” the game creator added.

The video should clear things up and show how the matchmaking works. However, I doubt this will make players on a losing streak feel any better, unless it comes with a coupon for free wins and a shoulder to cry on.

Do you think EOMM exists in Marvel Rivals?
