NetEase’s Marvel Rivals has seen a bout of controversy lately after laying off its American staff and slowing down patches outside of season updates. However, that hasn’t stopped the brilliant multiplayer game from continuing to rise in player counts as the title hits a new record.

Revealed by NetEase, Marvel Rivals player numbers are continuing to shoot up in the weeks since launch. Via the publisher’s latest earnings call, the free-to-play multiplayer game has now sucked up more than 40 million players.

Marvel Rivals player count breaks records

In NetEase’s latest earnings call, it’s stated that Marvel Rivals already hit a massive 10 million unique players just 72 hours after launch. By December 6, 2024, the game had already raked in ten million players.

In the almost three months since launch, Rivals has continued to grow in player count. As of yesterday, a total of 40 million unique players have jumped into the free-to-play game. However, it’s not known if this number also includes players who have only registered an amount and not played a match.

NetEase confirmed that Rivals’ massive player count saw a huge spike upon the release of Season 1, an update that added both Invisible Woman and Mr Fantastic. With The Thing and Human Torch also now out, could we see another big spike in player count?

With this in mind, Marvel Rivals isn’t slowing down with development of new content. While Season 1 is double the size of normal seasons, new heroes are still coming to the game every month and a half. Additionally, players will be treated to new events, maps and game modes as well.
