The Avengers hits cinemas next summer, yet Marvel has revealed it is still looking for a partner for a potential video game.

In recent years SEGA has secured the rights to Marvel’s non-Spider-Man super hero movies – Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America – but the rights to The Avengers have reverted back to Marvel.

“The rights for a video game based on Marvel’s Avengers IP have reverted back to Marvel,” a Marvel spokesperson told GameSpot. “The company is in early stages of exploring potential publishing and licensing opportunities.”

Given the popularity of Marvel’s theatrical efforts and the all-star cast attached to The Avengers, the conglomerate movie looks set to be one of the biggest releases of 2012. Any video game deal is likely to be keenly contested.
