Mario Kart 8 has sold approximately 2 million copies since launching late last month, Nintendo has confirmed. The sales data represents copies sold through to customers, rather than units supplied to stores.
1.2 million copies were previously revealed to have been sold during the game’s opening weekend, suggesting that around 800,000 were sold in the weeks that followed.
Mario Kart 8’s release has also seen a huge impact on Wii U sales, which jumped by 666% during the game’s launch week. Sales figures released by Nintendo last month pin Wii U hardware sales at 6.17m worldwide. It isn’t known how many more units the console has sold since.
