A new 200cc Mode is to be introduced to Mario Kart 8 for free later this month.

Arriving in a new title update on April 23, the new mode promises to be the fastest mode in any Mario Kart yet, introducing 200cc vehicles to all tracks locally and online. “You’ll need to actually use the brakes!”, Nintendo says.

The update will add support for 9 more Amiibo characters, too, including Wario, Pac-Man, Olimar, Bowser, Sonic, Toad, Villager, Rosalina and Mario Man, with each unlocking new themed outfits for Mii racers.

Mario Kart 8’s second DLC pack has also been brought forward to arrive the same day, having previously been due to launch next month.

Available for £7, the Animal Crossing-themed DLC introduces 3 new characters – Isabelle, Villager and Dry Bowser – plus 4 new vehicles and 8 new courses. One of the tracks, which is based on Animal Crossing, will see the season change each time you play it, rotating between spring, summer, autumn and winter.

The DLC is also available in a bundle featuring the original pack for £11.
