Mario Kart 8 update 4.0 is now available to download on Wii U, introducing a range of new features including the anticipated 200cc racing class.

“A software update is now available that introduces new features and adjustments to enhance the overall experience,” reads Nintendo Support. “Please start the game while your Wii U console is connected to the internet to update the software. The software version after this update will be 4.0.”

Mario Kart 8 Update 4.0 Contents

  • Adds 200cc racing class
  • Introduces nine new Mii racing suits unlocked by using amiibo. For more information, please visit our Mario Kart 8 website.
  • Adds ability to use the second add-on content pack
  • Introduces additional enhancements to improve the user’s experience and enjoyment

Installing the update does not affect your save game data.

The game’s second add-on content pack is also now available.

  • Cheese Land (GBA): High-definition remake of a course featured in Mario Kart: Super Circuit – full of cheese-themed obstacles and even a hungry giant Chain Chomp.
  • Koopa City (3DS): High-definition remake of a course featured in Mario Kart 7 – drive through the pouring rain at night in a city controlled by Bowser, and decked out in dazzling neon lights.
  • Ribbon Road (GBA): High-definition remake of a course featured in Mario Kart: Super Circuit – set in a miniaturised world packed with ribbons and toys.
