SEGA has today announced that Mario and Sonic are coming together once again, this time taking their rivalry to the snow and ice in the officially licensed Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

Scheduled for release late this year for Wii and Nintendo DS, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games will feature new events from the official competition schedule including Alpine Skiing and Speed Skating – more events will be announced throughout the year.

Players will also be able to choose from a cast of legendary characters from the world of Mario and Sonic, including new faces to the series to be revealed later this year.

Each version has been tailored to the specific controls of Wii and Nintendo DS, promising completely unique experiences. The Wii game promises a rich multiplayer experience offering co-op and competitive gameplay, and the Nintendo DS offers a competitive element using the Nintendo DS wireless capabilities.

The Wii version will also offer support for the Wii Balance Board, allowing for a more interactive and realistic experience on selected events.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games will be in stores late this year.
