Speaking in an interview with Wired News, Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Mario 128 will not be coming to the GameCube, but to the Revolution. He also revealed that the game is still very much in the design stage.
“It’s still floating around. We’re searching for that fundamental idea that’s going to drive the next 3-D Mario game. But we’re not sure when that’s going to jump out at us. We’re doing lots of tests with small group,” said Miyamoto.
In the same interview Miyamoto went on to discuss the secretive Revolution controller. He claimed that Nintendo are always on the forefront on controller design and innovation, which is then copied by competitors. I don’t think anyone can argue against this.
“Nintendo is always trying to be on the forefront of control innovations, like the analog stick, rumble or wireless. As soon as these are available, our competitors snatch them up,” said Miyamoto. “Because the user interface is going to drive the Revolution software design, that’s what’s going to make our software stand out. Nobody else is going to be able to do what we do with next-generation game software. So, I can’t reveal anything. It’s under wraps because it’s the big gun.“
The Revolution’s controller remains under wraps and so the speculation and excitement around it continues to grow. The latest idea amongst Pro-G staff is a controller which can be constructed into your favourite Nintendo character using attachable limbs and dress up clothes. Once constructed you control the game using the action figure you have transformed the controller into.
