Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell, currently on loan to Championship leaders Hull, has admitted he missed his parent club’s loss to Danish club FC Midtjylland in the Europa League last night because he was busy playing FIFA.

“No, I completely forgot – I was playing FIFA, if I was honest,” he told PA Sport. “I did read the reports and, I don’t know, it’s hard. They’re under pressure because the gaffer has come out and said it’s the best way to qualify for the Champions League next year.

“They’ve had so many injuries, with Wazza going out and David was injured before the game. There’s no excuse – they should’ve won, but that’s just the way it is.”

Manchester United, who lost 2-1, must now win at home for any chance of progressing in the tournament.
