MAG, SOCOM: Confrontation and SOCOM: Special Forces’ online multiplayer modes will be taken offline early next year, Sony has announced.

Sony announced its intention to take the multiplayer-focused games offline on Twitter last night, warning players that servers will shut on January 28, 2014.

The news essentially renders MAG and SOCOM: Confrontation useless: both games are built around the premise of online multiplayer.

MAG was one of the final games to be developed by Zipper Interactive, which was closed by Sony in March last year.

January 28 would have marked the week of MAG’s fourth anniversary. The game first launched on PS3 back in January 2010 but failed to attract a major audience, likely due to releasing between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
