It can be difficult to draft elite players, but one Madden 24 star punter was found doing just that. In fact, this particular player was one of the highest OVRs that you can get out of the draft. The fact that it came in the form of a punter drafted very late in the process just adds to the impressive nature of this gem. You’re often lucky if you find one player anywhere near this good from the draft, and this punter had the community talking.
Madden 24 star punter draws praise
u/stonedkmoney shared to Reddit that he didn’t even know that one could find a generational punter in the draft. There are good punters in the NFL, but most weren’t drafted recently. This doesn’t happen very often. In fact, most teams don’t like spending any of their picks on a punter anymore.
That’s what makes this Madden 24 star punter so surprising. He’s legitimately one of the best-rated punters in the entire game and he hasn’t even taken a single kick yet. Eric Wagner is an absolute steal, since that OVR of player generally goes way higher.
The community made comparisons to Shane Lechler, one of the best punters in NFL history. u/Either_Department859 said, “That’s so f****n cool haha.” u/MaintenanceNeither32 joked that a player this highly rated ought to be moved, “Time to make him a safety.”

Cracked for like 2 decades.” u/kander12 added, “Yup. Drafted an 88 ovr super star dev punter my last franchise as well. Normally I never look at them when scouting, randomly went through as I needed one and the dude was elite kpw and accuracy was A and his awareness was an A. Had to draft him in rd6 just in case haha.”
It wouldn’t be a community discussion without EA Sports catching a stray, though. u/ItsYaBoiSoup said this of the player, “I love how a punter/kicker can be like an 87 OVR despite maxing out the only skills that matter for their position.” Kickers and punters can only be so good despite being elite at every aspect of what they do. Even Justin Tucker is only an 89 OVR.
This punter was selected by the Carolina Panthers, which is fortunate. Since they are such an awful team, they tend to punt pretty often. At least with a Madden 24 star punter in tow, they have a chance to really pin the opponent deep.
