Electronic Arts has gone on the record to say eagerly-awaited RPG The Lord of the Rings: The White Council is officially now on hold.

In a financial conference call with investors, EA’s chief financial officer Warren Jenson said, quite ambiguously to be honest,: “The Lord of the Rings product is back in development in terms of being on hold”

Jenson is then reported to have claimed the game, feared cancelled earlier in the year, won’t be released by the end of the next financial year (March 31 2008). So it looks like LOTR fans could be in for quite a long wait, although there is still Codemasters’ LOTR Online: Shadows of Angmar to keep them occupied from April 24 this year.
