Scheduled for release towards the end of 2006, Lost Planet is set in a world covered in snow and glaziers. People calling themselves Snow Pirates use Vitality Suits enabling them to explore the harsh tundra environment. There are dangers associated with exploring though, as humans are no longer the dominate race, with the Eecrid now sitting at the top of the food tree.

The story is a little vague at the moment, but we know that the game’s lead was saved by the Snow Pirates after losing his memory, but the memory of his father’s death at the hands of the Eecrid remains. The game is primarily a third-person shooter either on foot or onboard a mech and is also said to feature some considerable online play, although no details have been released.

There are some heavy hitters of the videogame industry onboard, with Keiji Inafune (Onimusha, Dead Rising) as executive producer, Jun Takeuchi (Onimusha 3 and Resident Evil 5) producing, and Kenji Ohguro (Onimusha) as chief designer.

From the trailer and screens that have been released Lost Planet looks to be something worth getting excited over. We’ll keep you posted as more information emerges.
