Hail to the King, baby, an unknown Duke Nukem game has just been released online. Dubbed Duke Nukem: D-Day, this scrapped 2001 spin-off has finally seen the light of day after almost 25 years of digital imprisonment.

Duke Nukem: D-Day prototype leaks online

Developed by N-Space in 2001, Duke Nukem: D-Day was designed to be the character’s debut PlayStation 2 appearance while 3D Realms worked on the series cursed mainline entry Duke Nukem Forever

N-Space, who developed the PS1 entries Land of the Babes and Time to Kill, created the D-Day spin-off for PS2, but the game was sadly canned. The spin-off would’ve seen Duke take a trip to the past to fight Nazis and Aliens (of course) in World War 2, complete with all the oo-rah ‘Murica you can muster.

Now, a leaked build has found its way online (here) with 12-playable levels. The game itself is allegedly 90% complete, but cutscenes are non-functional and there’s next to no voice work. (Perhaps some talented modders can shape this thing up? Now, that would be amazing.)

Nevertheless, the game does appear fun, at least as fun as the other Duke Nukem games by N-Space. Sadly, Duke Nukem 3D is the pinnacle of the franchise, but we’re always holding out for the character to pop out of retirement and give us a boomer shooter worth clapping for.

For those who don’t wanna give the prototype a go, D-Day starts out with the titular protagonist visiting a strip club (typical) before being sucked into World War 2. Once he’s there, it’s time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, but WW2 ration bubble gum is pretty damn awful.

In the game, you’ll fight through hordes of Nazi scum, gunning them down across the beaches of Normandy and find your way to Antarctica to blow up an alien mothership. You know, typical action hero stuff.

According to the leaker, D-Day was still in development until 2001, so there may be an even more finished version of the game out there somewhere. Hopefully, a version of the game with more polished combat, actual cutscenes and John St. John’s epic voice work can be released as well.
