Lionhead Studios has thanked fans for their “overwhelming show of love and support” following this week’s announcement that the developer is to close.

“Tough week,” the studio tweeted, “but we’re all deeply touched by overwhelming show of love & support from gamers and fellow devs. Heartfelt thanks #gamerfamily”

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that it would be closing Lionhead and cancelling Fable Legends. Max: The Curse of Brotherhood developer Press Play was also closed with immediate effect.

Microsoft described the closures as “tough decisions” that were “not taken lightly”, and explained that it continued to focus “on the games and franchises that fans find most exciting and want to play”.

Five other studios were later discovered to have been removed from the Microsoft Studios website, although their status is still unknown.

In a statement provided to VideoGamer on Tuesday, Microsoft said that it had “removed several logos for older studios and projects that have been consolidated during the past several years into other Microsoft Studios and teams.”
