Since the recent free-to-play changeover of Lineage II in November, the previously subscription-based MMO has seen an 800 per cent increase in concurrent players, NCsoft has announced.
According to the firm, alongside the increased player-base, more than 250,000 users have the “Path to Awakening service” which rewards players for their game progression with free items to help them level faster.
NCsoft has also had to double the number of servers in order to keep up with the volume of players, while revenue has quadrupled for the game in the last two months, MMORPG reports.
Lineage 2 was originally released to North America in 2004, however its userbase is based largely in Asia.
