The very short-lived MMO LEGO Universe is breathing its last breath today, with servers scheduled to close down permanently at midnight EST (5am GMT).

The game initially began offering a free-to-play trial last August in order to stir further sales. However the game’s VP Jesper Vilstrup announced merely one month later that the studio had not been able to build “a satisfactory revenue model in our target group, and therefore, have decided to close the game.”

An FAQ on the closure is currently available, with details on refunds for incomplete subscriptions.

The FAQ also states once again why the MMO is being shut down:

“After one year the game has nowhere near as many subscribers as we needed to be able to keep it running.”

LEGO Universe launched October 2010 after roughly two years of delays.
