The latest Wii U system update is rolling out to consoles now, Nintendo has announced.

Version 3.1.0 U offers minor improvements to the system’s standby functionality, including the option to check for available SpotPass data or software and system updates while the console is powered off.

Software updates will now automatically be downloaded and installed while the system is powered down, with new system updates installing the next time the Wii U is turned on.

The Wii U power light will turn orange while it is installing updates during standby to notify users.

In addition to the new standby functionality, Nintendo claims that 3.1.0 U also makes “further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”.

A further system update providing “further additions to system functionality” is planned for release between “the end of September and beginning of October”.
