Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 has arrived with significant hero balancing adjustments, changing the competitive landscape and igniting intense debates among players. Ultron, a new Strategist hero, was included in the update, along with a new map, Hellfire Gala: Arakko, and a modified Cerebro Database II event.

Key balancing changes have targeted fan-favorite heroes, with Captain America’s survivability reduced to 575 and his Ultimate energy cost increased to 3100, while Groot, Emma Frost, and the Fantastic Four have had their skills toned down. Meanwhile, upgrades to Doctor Strange, The Punisher, Squirrel Girl, and Storm aim to increase their survivability, with Storm obtaining the new Shark Surge ability and The Punisher getting a +25 max HP boost.

These adjustments, as stated in NetEase’s patch notes, are intended to diversify team compositions and fight the dominance of tank-heavy lineups. As the community adapts, expectation grows for a June 5 update, which is expected to improve these changes and possibly bring new content to keep the meta moving. Among the revealed changes in the patch notes, players have noticed a significant buff to a hero, which feels like a complete troll.

Marvel Rivals June 6 update buffs Loki’s emotes as players feel trolled by “useless” addition

The next Marvel Rivals patch, set for June 6, 2025, intends to go out effortlessly with no server downtime, bringing new skins, events, and gameplay improvements. The spotlight patch for Loki’s emote, which allows his clones to mimic his emotes, has elicited conflicting reviews, with some players believing it is a trivial modification bordering on mocking by the developers.

The Loki emote fix, combined with his Doppelganger ability, means that his clones now do emotes in real time, boosting his deceitful flair. As mentioned, this change makes it more difficult for opponents to recognize the real Loki, somewhat increasing his strategic advantage.

However, some players say that this patch is mostly cosmetic and does not solve underlying flaws with Loki’s kit, such as cooldown slowdowns or post-transformation bugs with other heroes’ abilities. They believe the developers are favoring flashy, low-impact tweaks over important balance changes, particularly for supports competing with dominating flying heroes in the current meta.

Despite the criticism, the update could potentially offer larger content, such as new cosmetics or balance changes for heroes such as Doctor Strange, building on previous patches. While the Loki tweak provides a fun twist for some, the perception that it’s a trolling gesture highlights a division, with players wanting more substantial adjustments to improve Marvel Rivals’ competitiveness.
