Konami has confirmed that it has no plans to complete development on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s ‘missing’ Mission 51.

The extra mission was cancelled during the game’s original development, the official Metal Gear Twitter says, and is “definitely not the ending”, with the game always having been “planned to end at [mission] 50”.

Early footage of the additional mission, however, was included on the game’s Collector’s Edition disc, and was described by Kotaku as featuring one of Metal Gear Solid 5’s “most important story scenes”.

Konami, though, simply says that footage of the mission was a “bonus gift [to collectors] showing behind-the-scenes content in early development”.

Some players, however, have accused Konami of cutting Metal Gear Solid 5’s ending, with many asking for a missing Chapter 3 to wrap up open plot points.

“The ending is found in the missions within,” Konami continues. “Many threads continue in Metal Gear and subsequent games.”

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Definitive Experience, a compilation release featuring The Phantom Pain and prequel Ground Zeroes, is due to launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC this October.
