Koei, known for its long-running franchises, has gone and announced a Wii game based on an all-new IP. Details are scarce right now, but Opoona has enough talent on board to get those gaming juices flowing.

Opoona is also the name of the game’s main character, a descendant of the brave Cosmo Guards. The story sees Opoona visiting the planet Landroll with his family, but he finds himself separated from them only to discover his parents seriously injured in hospital and his brother and sister missing.

From here on Opoona must earn a license to travel to other colonies and investigate the mysterious happenings. Each new license gives Opoona a different job such as rescuer, idol and detective.

Shintaro Majima is heading art direction, with Sachiko Yukimura taking the role of planning director and Hitoshi Sakimoto handling the soundtrack.

As a Wii game you’d expect use of the Wii-mote, but this won’t be the case with Opoona. Koei says that much of the game is controlled entirely with the Nunchuck.

Opoona is scheduled for a Summer 2007 release in Japan.
