Kinect for Windows v2 - the PC version of Xbox One's Kinect - releases in the UK next Tuesday, July 15 for £159, according to the Microsoft Store. The device will also be available in the US for $199 (£116) the same day.

The new Windows Kinect features an almost identical design to the Xbox One version, with a wide base and large microphone array. In fact, the only differences appear to be the new Kinect logo and a small white power light in place of the original Xbox One sphere.

"The Kinect for Windows v2 sensor gives developers more of the precision, responsiveness and intuitive capabilities they need to develop interactive voice- and gesture-based applications for the Windows desktop and Windows Store," says Microsoft.

Developers are able to use the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 (licensed separately) to build Kinect applications with C++, C#, VB.Net, Cx, or JavaScript.

A standalone version of the Xbox One Kinect is set to release separately this autumn. A price has yet to be announced.
