Kinect for Windows hardware and accompanying software will launch in 12 countries (including the UK) on February 1, 2012, Microsoft has announced.
Priced at $249, the device will be available in limited quantities at first, and will include one-year warranty, access to ongoing software updates for both speech and human tracking, and Microsoft’s continued investment in Kinect for Windows-based software advancements.
Later in the year Microsoft will roll out academic pricing, planned at $149.
Kinect for Windows isn’t compatible with Xbox 360, because of updated firmware which allows the sensor to do more, including near mode.
This morning Microsoft announced it has shipped 18 million Kinect for Xbox 360 units worldwide.
