John Romero, the co-creator of Doom and co-founder of Ion Storm, has posted on his personal website to confirm rumours that he has left Midway. He writes: “I can definitely confirm that I have left Midway – I’ve been gone for about 3 weeks.” Romero was hired by Midway in 2003 together with his co-founder of Ion Storm, Tom Hall.
Romero has said the development of Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows has been unaffected by his upheaval.
“Midway says that development of Gauntlet hasn’t been impacted by my departure and is scheduled to ship this fall,” Romero commented. “I can’t say anything more about the situation and hope you all understand.“
Romero is now is limbo before deciding where his future lies.”I’m currently looking at lots of exciting developments,” said Romero, adding that “it’ll be a couple months before I can announce my next destination.“
