Nintendo of Japan has launched the fifth colour variation of the DS Lite, and as expected the new Jet Black model was a sell-out. Excited gamers joined queues of up to 500 people in order to get their hands on the Black DS Lite on the day of release. Reports from Japan reveal that the Jet Black DS Lite attracted a predominantly male audience, unlike the launch of the Pink DS Lite last month which saw queues populated mostly with female gamers.
The Saturday morning launch coincided with the release of Tingle RPG and Chousouju Mecha MG, and although both were heavily advertised it’s unlikely they had much impact on queue lengths – gamers were there to get their hands on the new DS Lite and a new game was simply a bonus.
Several of those queuing for the Jet Black DS Lite spoke to Famitsu.com. “I really wanted black, so I waited for this day,” said one excited gamer. “When I saw the line, I wanted one, so I just lined up and saw what happened,” said a gamer doing an impersonation of a lemming.
