Square Enix has poured some cold water on the dreams of anyone hoping to play the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake on anything other than a Sony system.

Over the last 24 hours, interest was piqued when Xbox Germany seemingly posted a video of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer on their Facebook, with references to PlayStation removed. It was removed fairly quickly, with a response from Xbox DACH marketing and social lead Maxi Gräff saying the trailer was mis-posted due to 'an internal mistake'.  Nevertheless, it was, naturally, picked up by the internet and speculation ran rampant it meant the much loved RPG might see an Xbox release.

However, in a statement provided to Video Games Chronicle, a Square Enix representative has now said 'As previously announced, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released for the PlayStation 4 on March 3rd 2020. We have no plans for other platforms' which seems to have put any hopes to bed that the game will see the light of day on an Xbox or Nintendo platform.

So for the time being, you'll have to make sure you have a PlayStation 4 if you want to play Final Fantasy VII Remake's first chapter on March 3, 2020 – although apparently it will be playable on PlayStation 5 whenever that console arrives.
