Infinity Blade, the highly anticipated and visually impressive iOS action title from ChAIR and Epic Games, will be released on Thursday, December 9.

Released as a universal app – one purchase allows the game to be played across all iOS devices – the game will cost $5.99. We haven’t got a confirmed UK price, but £3.99 looks likely.

Set in the realm of a fully 3D castle, the game’s single-player mode features simple touch controls designed for players of all skill levels. Players will gain experience, build stats and earn more powerful items to prepare their knight for the final encounter with the game’s nemesis, the God-King.

Additional content will be released free of charge via planned updates, including a fully integrated multiplayer mode, which enables players to find friends and other challengers to battle online via Game Center.

Infinity Blade will be available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iTouch 3, and iTouch 4.

Coming hot on the heels of id Software’s Rage: Mutant Bash TV, iOS owners are certainly beginning to see what their portable devices are really capable of.

Our only worry with Infinity Blade is its price. At $5.99 it’s three times the cost of the HD edition of Rage, which clocked in at only $0.99/£1.19 for the SD version. The biggest hits on the App Store have been those which cost very little – Doodle Jump, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope.
