Award-winning RPG designers and game industry veterans Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall from independent studio Loot Drop have teamed up to create a classic, old-school RPG, and they’re seeking funding via Kickstarter.

The “Old School RPG” Kickstarter promises a return to core games in a genre that defined the industry. If $1 million is raised then one RPG will be made, but should funding reach $1.9 million then a second game will also be made.

Loot Drop’s RPG harkens back to the days when RPGs were king, where you’ll gather your bearings and belongings, leave town, and embark on an incredible journey in a world that seems at once welcoming and friendly… until you meet its dark side.

“For me, it is absolutely a calling, maybe even a craving,” says Brathwaite. “I started playing RPGs when I was 11, rewrote one at 13 and at 15 was working on them professionally. It is my favourite type of game to make and to play.”

Hall is equally excited.”I’ve been in this industry for over 25 years. Brenda’s worked on some of the games that began my love of computer RPGs.”

“We both come from D&D-playing roots. Our lives have been filled with RPGs since the 70s. We just love the genre. And it was so fun and rewarding making Anachronox with my amazing team back then – I can’t wait to combine that fun with Brenda’s brilliance to make a rich, epic, interesting RPG world. Or two!”

If the $1.9 million stretch goal is reached then the team will make two RPGs, each with different worlds, NPCs, races, and art styles. If you finish one game you’ll be able to import your character into the other, to experience new game beginnings and endings.

“We hope to get to that stretch goal – the design and gameplay possibilities are so intriguing,” said Brathwaite.
