A report published this morning in retail magazine MCV speculates that Nintendo plans to launch their new handheld in European territories in late March 2005, and that it will have a disappointingly heavy price tag attatched to it. That price is £129.99, which, for the Europhiles amongst us, equates to 186 Euro, a much higher price than the US$149.99 price point in the United States.

If the trade magazine’s sources are, indeed, genuine, and Nintendo does, indeed, launch the DS at this price level, the gaming giant is likely to come under fire from consumers for overpricing, as the rumoured price works out at almost US$90 more expensive than our cousins across the Atlantic.
However, it is important to note that this information is unconfirmed, and MCV has cited unnamed sources “close to the Japanese games giant”, which means there’s hope for us yet.
