Indie Built began life in 1983 as Access Software and developed the very popular Links golf titles. In 1999 the developer was bought by Microsoft, becoming part of Microsoft Game Studios, and in 2004 was sold to Take-Two. More recently, the studio’s Amped 3 for Xbox 360 failed to ignite consumer interest and can already be found languishing in the bargain bins, despite offering a humorous and different take on the snowboarding genre.
Take-Two has promised to take care of the employees affected by the studio’s closure. Jim Ankner, Dir. of Corporate Communications said, “Employees are being offered packages including continuation of salary and benefits, as well as other opportunities within Take-Two as appropriate.” The exact number of job losses has not been specified.
Future Links, Amped and other games Indie Built worked on may return to see another day, with Take-Two maintaining the rights to all the IP.
