Dark Energy Digital has announced that critically mauled action adventure game Hydrophobia is coming to PSN and Steam.

While the Xbox LIVE Arcade release of the game failed to excite critics, earning a 3/10 from VideoGamer.com. A big update fixed a number of issues, but the game remained disappointing for many.

The good news is that the Steam and PSN version is to be titled Hydrophobia Prophecy, a reworked version of the patched XBLA release. The game will included upgraded graphics, new gameplay mechanics, new levels, a reworked back-story, a new ending, new voice acting and more.

“We could’ve just ported Hydrophobia Pure over to Steam and PSN after the positive response it received, but we decided to go much further,” said Dark Energy Digital’s Pete Jones. “The community really blew us away with the incredible response to Hydrophobia Pure and the outstanding level of feedback on the listening post, so we wanted to return the favour and ensure we created a bigger and better experience in every possible respect with Hydrophobia Prophecy for Steam and PSN.”

Also new to the PSN and Steam version of the game is Darknet, a user feedback system which lets users deliver opinions at any point during gameplay.

Hydrophobia Prophecy will launch on Steam on May 9, currently priced £7.64 for pre-order. A PSN version will follow.
