Blizzard’s latest Diablo 4 patch 2.2.2. update—what a version number—is now available on all platforms, and there’s some fantastic changes. As everyone gets ready to craft extremely overpowered spells in the upcoming Season 9 update, Blizzard has released a significant patch for the current season.
In Patch 2.2.2, Blizzard has reworked the cost of Masterworking, the game’s endgame crafting system. Additionally, the developer has turned off DirectStorage in an attempt to fix some nasty performance issues on PC.
Diablo 4 Patch 2.2.2. update
Announced on the official Diablo blog, the latest patch for the ARPG has overhauled Masterworking to be cheaper for early levels. While the Gold and Obducite cost is identical, Blizzard has reduced the number of materials needed for each action.
This means that players even in early ranks will be able to commit more Masterwork Resets without heading back out to grind materials. It’s a small change that won’t affect the most hardcore of players at all, but it should help lower ranks progress smoother through the game.
“[The] intent is to ensure costs besides Obducite and Gold don’t limit Masterworking, especially when the player engages in a significant number of Masterwork Resets,” Blizzard explained.
In the update, Diablo 4 DirectStorage on PC has also been completely disabled in an attempt to fix glaring performance issues. While the feature can still be enabled via a Battlenet launch command, Blizzard has removed the feature as it may be responsible for performance problems, despite the technique actually being designed to improve loading times.
If, for some reason, you want to re-enable to technique, simply follow these steps:
- Open the Battle.net Launcher
- Navigate to Diablo IV—”(Gear Icon) next to Play”—Game Settings
- Check “Additional command line arguments”
- Add: -enableds
Of course, there’s a tonne of additional bug fixes that help to make Diablo 4 even more stable, including fixes for numerous accessibility features throughout the game.
