Sony has released a troubleshooting guide offering solutions on how to fix the PlayStation 4’s ‘Blinking Blue Light’ error experienced by multiple users.

According to Sony, the error is an indication of an hardware fault within the console, or an incompatibility issue with the user’s TV, and can cause the console to stop outputting video and audio to the TV or power off.

“Some reports have been coming in from users with PS4 units blinking blue, but not entering the powered on state indicated by a white light as noted in the PS4 Power Indicator Lights Guide,” said Sony.

Here are some of the symptoms associated with blinking blue lights issue:

  • blue indicator light blinking
  • no video/audio output to television
  • console powering off after blinking blue

This blinking light issue could indicate any number of causes including but not limited to:

  • TV compatibility
  • Issues with PS4 power supply
  • Issues with PS4 hard drive
  • Issues with other PS4 hardware

A list of solutions can be found over on Sony’s forums and include disconnecting the PS4 power cord and ensuring the internal hard drive isn’t loose.

Last week, Sony said that it expects less than 1 per cent of users to be suffering from hardware problems – a figure “within [its] expectations for a new product introduction”.

PlayStation 4 launched on Friday in North America, with sales surpassing 1 million units within the first 24 hours. The console releases in the UK next Friday, November 29.
