  • Error Code 8012 is usually caused by Dead by Daylight servers going offline or undergoing maintenance. Alternatively, Steam servers have maintenance every Tuesday, which can also cause this error to appear.
  • If the servers are working normally, check your internet connection and try repairing Easy Anti-Cheat.

Dead by Daylight has remained consistently popular due to its fast-paced gameplay and continuous updates and character additions. Much like any other multiplayer game, though, it’s still susceptible to the occasional error code that plague many online servers. One example of an in-game malfunction that players often experience is the Error Code 8012.

Three ways to fix error code 8012

Check server status

In order to fix Error Code 8012, you’ll have to check whether Dead by Daylight servers are down by checking official channels. This specific malfunction typically occurs when you get disconnected from an online service, which means that it’s usually caused by an issue on the developer’s end.

If you’re playing on Steam, there’s also a chance that there’s ongoing server maintenance. This usually happens on Tuesdays at 3 pm PT/11 pm BST, meaning that’s when you will encounter Error Code 8012.

In both cases, you unfortunately won’t be able to do anything yourself as it depends wholly on how quickly the backend problems are resolved. Luckily, this means that your system doesn’t have any complications so you won’t have to worry about anything else.

You’ll be able to check for the game’s current server status through its official Twitter account or Discord server. Each piece of news related to Behaviour Interactive’s title is posted on both of these channels so you’ll be able to find out quickly if other players are experiencing the same bugs.

Check your internet connection

There will be times, however, when this message pops up even when the game’s servers are intact. When this happens, you will need to check your own internet connection. Afterwards, you can then try to restart both your PC and router to see if it fixes the issue. If the problem persists, get in touch with your ISP to see if there is an issue on their end.

Fix Easy Anti-Cheat

Dead by Daylight uses Easy Anti-Cheat software to prevent cheating by less scrupulous players. However, EAC is known to cause issues from time to time, sometimes causing disconnects for no apparent reason. This in turn can lead to you getting Error Code 8012. Luckily, the app can be fixed by following these steps:

  • Go to the Dead by Daylight folder on your PC.
  • Find the EasyAntiCheat folder and open it.
  • Locate the file called EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe and right-click it.
  • Select Run as Administrator and wait for it to load up.
  • Click on the Repair button.
  • Let the process finish, and then restart your PC.

After that, try launching Dead by Daylight again. If the problem was caused by EAC, now you shouldn’t have any issues and the game will run normally.
