Plaion, Milestone and Mattel have officially announced Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged, set to release this October as a sequel to the toy-car racer from 2021.
The sequel will include more vehicles than ever – 130 to be exact, including the debut of the fan-requested additions of motorbikes and ATVs. The sequel will also include new mechanics in the form of the dash and jump, which means there’ll be whole new ways of tackling the five new environments that also promise interactive objects both on and off the track that’ll make races that little bit more chaotic.
Elsewhere, you can expect the return of the popular 2 player split-screen so you can enjoy races on the couch, and a “variety of new game modes that add a fresh layer of fun and challenges both offline and online” – and online itself will be made easier by the fan-requested addition of cross-play.
Solo players will also get a brand new story campaign with four original characters, complete with animated cutscenes – and of course user generated content is back in a big way, thanks to the refined Track Editor which returns, as well as an updated Livery Editor that will now allow you to create Stickers as well.
The news comes just a few weeks following the game leaking in a rather unusual (if fitting) way, when a die-cast car emblazoned with the new game’s logo was uncovered by Hot Wheels collector fans on Instagram.
Hot Wheels will release on October 19 2023, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
